Product Design 3-D (Design and Technology) GCE A Level Why study the world, its history and its finances when you could shape the future of it through Product Design?! Great Britain’s greatest inventors and entrepreneurs all have a background and a founding in the many areas of design. Inventors such as Alexander Graham Bell, John Logie Bird along with the new generation like Emily Cummins, have all been involved with design. The course can take you to varied choice of careers thus making it an ideal choice to go alongside established A level courses such as Maths and the Sciences. The course has been designed to encourage students to take a broad view of design and technology, to develop their capacity to design and make products and to appreciate the complex relations between design, materials, manufacture and marketing. AS outline At AS level you will develop an understanding of a broad range of materials, with emphasis on the life cycle of products, manufacture and final disposal. This course also considers the broader issues for the designer including the environmental sustainability of products and consumer safety: Unit 1: (PROD1) Materials, Components and Application Unit 2: (PROD2) Learning Through Designing and Making. A2 outline At A2, the course offers candidates the opportunity to further develop the knowledge and practical skills from AS. Students will continue to develop a body of coursework alongside an understanding of the processes and procedures of commercial production and manufacture: Unit 3: (PROD3) Design and Manufacture Unit 4: (PROD4) Design and Making Practice
