Sport BTEC Level 3, You choose either 1, 2 or 3 A level equivalent The subject has a proven track record of producing excellent results .The course allows progression to University or employment. Students studying the course develop lifelong learning skills and an ability to work independently as well as in a team. Students follow a selection of units from the following: Principles of anatomy and physiology in sport; The physiology of fitness; Assessing risk in sport; Fitness training and programming; Sports coaching; Sports development; Fitness testing for sport and exercise; Practical team sport; Practical individual sports; Sports nutrition; Leadership in sport; Exercise health and lifestyle; Instructing exercise and fitness; Exercise for specific groups; Psychology for sports performance; Sports injuries; Talent identification and development in sport; Rules regulations and officiating in sport; Organising sports events 5 A* - C GCSE grades or equivalent, English Language GCSE at grade C minimum. In addition, good ICT skills are an advantage as the work is ICT based, using three ICT suites for Physical Education. All work is assessed through both coursework, which is externally assessed and a written examination. You need to attend regularly, keep up-to-date with work and meet regular deadlines for the submission of assignments which are assessed for your qualification. The course involves a lot of independent work. Staff point students in the right direction to be able to write the necessary assignment by independently researching the topics. Students will be asked to compare and contrast and critically evaluate work to achieve the higher grades. This Sport course provides the underpinning knowledge, understanding and skills for success in current and future employment or for progression to higher level courses such as Higher Nationals or a Degree at University.
