At AS the Course will consist of two modules. Law 01 introduces students to Law Making and the Legal System. The former includes Parliamentary Law Making, Delegated Legislation, Statutory Interpretation and Judicial Precedent. The Legal System will look at Court Systems and the Legal Profession. Students will sit a written examination in January and will be asked to answer 3 questions from a possible eight. Law 02 focuses on two main elements Criminal Law and The Tort of Negligence. Concepts include actus reus, mens rea and the duty of care. The exam in the summer expects students to answer all of the questions on both topics. At A2 students build on their existing knowledge. In Law03 students will return to Criminal Liability with special focus on murder, voluntary and involuntary manslaughter. The students will choose one of two given case studies and asked to assess the criminal liability of the accused. They will also be asked to evaluate a particular branch of Criminal Law. In Law 04 students will develop their understanding of Negligence through focus on topics such as psychiatric injury, occupiers liability and vicarious liability. There is also a synoptic element – Concepts of Law - which examines Law’s relationship with morals, justice and fault.
