A Level Physical Education

The sports industry is very much a growing and influential area in society, and the Physical Education course equips you with the knowledge and practical skills to really help understand it. You learn how to analyse your own performance and investigate the physiological and psychological factors which underpin performance. You must be performing in a competitive sport at a high level if you are to succeed. The course is the ideal preparation for Higher Education and career progression into a wide range of fields such as teaching, coaching, journalism and the various disciplines of sports science. Students will study sports participation and performance in physical activity. Most of the course is classroom-based preparing students for a written examination. Students will learn how to analyse performances from their main sport and describe how they would improve. The practical element of the course involves performing in one sport and marks are determined by effectiveness of applying skills and tactics effectively. AS Unit 1: This theoretical area of the course looks at three main areas; Anatomy and Physiology, Skill Acquisition and History of sport AS Unit 2: Practical sports performance. Candidates are assessed in one sport in conditioned small game situations. A Level Unit 1: The major theoretical areas (Anatomy and Physiology, Skill Acquisition and History of sport) are explored further with a focus upon impact upon elite participation in sport with coverage of the following disciplines namely Exercise Physiology, Sports Psychology and Contemporary issues. A Level Unit 2: Candidates focus on participation in their main sport and are assessed playing it in a full and competitive situation. There is a written coursework assessment which involves a detailed analysis of their own performance.
