The course follows the AQA Specification, which focuses on the relationship of human populations to each other and to their physical environment. Throughout the course there are opportunities for candidates to consider: • Their own roles, values and attitudes in relation to the themes and issues studied. • The roles, values and attitudes of others. Opportunities to take part in fieldwork are essential for this course. AS Unit 1 – Physical and Human Geography Core topics – Rivers/flood management and Population change. Optional topics – Cold environments, Coasts, Deserts, Food supply issues, Energy issues, and Health issues. Unit 2 - Geographical Skills- students will participate in a fieldtrip where they will develop their skills in physical and human geography. A2 Unit 3 – Contemporary Geographical Issues – three are chosen from – Tectonics, Weather/Climate, Ecosystems, World Cities, Development and Globalisation, Contemporary conflicts. Unit 4A –Geography fieldwork investigation – this is a skills based paper which includes fieldwork questions based around the fieldwork that they have conducted during the year. How is it assessed? AS 2 written papers Unit 1: two hour exam Unit 2: one hour exam Both of these will be sat within the summer exam series. A2 2 written papers Unit 3: two and a half hour exam Unit 4A: one and a half hour exam Both of these will be sat within the summer exam series.
