BTEC Engineering is a two year course, equivalent to 1 or 2 A Level qualifications with no examinations. This course is 100% coursework. Students successful in this course can access higher education courses and careers in a wide variety of engineering roles. It would also be the perfect starting point if you were wanting to move into an engineering apprenticeship. Students will cover the majority of the units listed below for the diploma: • Mechanical Principles and Applications: applying mathematics to Engineering problems • Electrical and Electronic Principles: applying mathematics to Electronic problems • Engineering Drawing for technicians: developing drawing techniques • Communications for Engineering technicians: learning how to present ideas through varying media • Principles/Applications of Electronic Devices and Circuits: developing understanding of Electronics • CAD: developing the knowledge and skills needed to use computer aided drafting (CAD) techniques • Welding Technology: Learning to weld and understanding applications of welding • Engineering Secondary and Finishing Techniques: developing skills using a range of practical processes • Fabrication Process Technology: developing skills using a range of practical processes • Health and Safety: being aware of safe practice in Engineering • Mathematics for Engineering Technicians: developing Mathematics skill • Engineering project: a project set by the student – practical and design • Engineering Design: explore the design process and how it is applied within an engineering context.
