BTEC courses are designed to provide specialist work-related qualifications in a range of sectors. BTEC National Award is a vocational Art and Design course where the student will be continually assessed over a two year period. How are projects structured? At the beginning of every unit there is a preparation period where students learn new techniques and processes through workshop lessons (this is not assessed). After this period, students are given a brief to work on and respond to independently; applying the skills learnt in the workshop period (this is assessed). What will the units be? The course is made up of six units which may include: • Visual recording in Art and Design • Materials, Techniques and Processes in Art and Design • Ideas and Concepts in Art and Design • Communication through Art and Design • 3D Sculptural Textiles • Community Art   Where will it take me? BTEC National Diplomas are valued by employers and higher education (Universities & Colleges). Work could be in the following areas: Art and Design, Fashion Design and Textiles.

Name: Art and Design Qualification title: BTEC Certificate in Art and Design (QCF) Qualification type: Assessment How is it assessed? Each unit will be assessed by the tutor and the student will have provided evidence that demonstrates that they have met all the learning outcomes for the unit. The grading will be a Pass, Merit or Distinction. At the end of the two year period when all units are complete the work will be internally verified and then an external verifier will come and grade the work.
