A Level Physical Education is a two year full-time course with examinations taken at the end of the second year of study. Students are expected to have a strong interest in sport in its national and global context, and should be actively involved in at least one sporting activity themselves. A Level Physical Education consists of two externally examined papers and two non-examined assessments. There are four components of study over the two year period: Scientific Principles of Physical Education (40%), Psychological and Social Principles of Physical Education (30%), Practical Performance (15%) and Performance Analysis and Performance Development Programme (15%). Within these components students will be studying the following topic areas: Applied Anatomy and Physiology, Exercise Physiology and Applied Movement Analysis, Skill Acquisition, Sport Psychology and Sport and Society. This qualification carries UCAS points and is recognised by higher education providers as contributing to meeting admission requirements for many courses if taken alongside other qualifications as part of a two-year programme of study. This qualification will also look to develop employability skills that are essential for progression in to the sport sector as a career. The three categories covered will be: cognitive and problem-solving skills, intrapersonal skills and interpersonal skills.
