A Level Music is suitable for students who wish to study music at university or music college, or have a keen interest and high level of ability within the theory of composing and analysing in detail a wide range of musical styles. Students should already have a commitment to the subject and have reached a good performance standard (minimum of Grade 6 standard by Year 13). This course aims to develop students’ understanding and appreciation of a wide variety of music, from classical to contemporary music. It requires students to perform, compose, widen and develop their analytical skills in equal measure. The two year course consists of three components - performing (35% of final grade), composing (25% of final grade) plus listening and analysis (40% of final grade). Successful completion of the A Level Music course would equip students to study music at university or music college and lay the foundation for a career as either a performer, music educator or composer.
