A Level Computer Science

Students will develop an understanding of and ability to apply the fundamental principles and concepts of computer science including; abstraction, decomposition, logic, algorithms and data representation. Students will analyse problems in computational terms through practical experience of solving problems including writing programs to do so. The course consists of two modules in computer systems plus algorithms and programming. Both of these modules each equate to 40% of students’ final grade. The remaining 20% is made up of a programming project. Computing will help with most career choices; industries rely heavily on the use of computers and value this qualification. Computing is a versatile subject complementing many subjects including business studies, economics and mathematics. It also supports any further academic studies giving students the tools for success.
