Students will study a wide combination of topical environmental issues at both local and global scales. AS Unit 1 The Living Environment Investigates the conditions on Earth that have allowed life to flourish and life processes in the biosphere. Investigation is made of how and why we should conserve wildlife and the Earth's land resources. AS Unit 2 The Physical Environment Investigates the elements and processes of the atmosphere, hydrosphere and lithosphere. A2 Unit 3: Energy and Environmental Pollution Investigates future problems of energy supply and how these can be resolved. These issues include atmospheric, aquatic and terrestrial pollutants and how these can be effectively managed. A2 Unit 4: Biological Resources and Sustainability Investigates the demands placed upon the Earth's resources and life support systems including agriculture, fisheries and forestry and how these should be managed sustainably for future generations. Practical work in the field and in the laboratory forms part of this course.
