A Level English Literature

UPDATED 20150930 15:24:28

During the course, students will study eight core texts from across the three genres of Prose, Poetry and Drama including one Shakespeare play. The texts will come from across the full range of the literary canon, with at least one text published post-2000 and at least two pre-1900 texts, providing students with an excellent insight into literature through the ages. The most challenging aspect of the course is the amount of reading and research that needs to be completed outside lessons. Through theme and context based analysis students build their skills in literary interpretation and comparative approaches, giving them an opportunity to gain an overview of literature in the last 800 years: considering various poetic forms, the rise of the novel, how plays have changed over time, and much more. This will give students an excellent grounding, should they wish to go on to study literature at degree level.
