Psychology is the systematic study of behaviour. This can be ‘public’ behaviour or ‘private behaviour’ – such as what goes on in an individual’s mind. In most areas of psychology, public and private behaviour are seen as being closely related. Course details We follow the AQA Year1/AS specification. One part of the course relates to how psychologists research their subject. This part of the course includes practical activities such as designing and carrying out your own investigations. The second part of the course takes a more general look at psychology. Five key areas are studied – social, cognitive (how we think), developmental (how we grow up), biological (how brain and behaviour relate to each other) and individual differences (in this case, abnormal behaviour). We also look at some key perspectives and debates in psychology and applications of psychology in real life.
