For those who love to choreograph, perform dance work and enjoy exploration and analysis of professional work both live and recorded. AS practical and theory lessons will focus on the processes involved in creating original and refined dance work, as well as working to improve technical skills, performance principles and methods for training. You will also cover aspects such as health and safety of the dancer and the importance of maintaining an active and healthy lifestyle. You will be assessed on your skills as a choreographer and performer of your own solo work, as well as collaborating to create a duo/trio performance piece. A2 study looks at developing skills of analysis through the study of a set work - Merce Cunngham’s Beach Birds for Camera. It will look specifically at the development of Modern dance in Britain between 196 - 85 and will also explore the dancer in action further. Theory work will underpin the practical in the solo performance element; this will relate directly to the work of British Choreographer Christopher Bruce and Ghost Dances created in 1981. Creative skills will be developed further in the Group Choreography exam with the student making work for others.
