Film Studies

UPDATED 20150930 14:20:31

The course enables students, through the study of a wide variety of films, film history and film criticism, to establish an understanding and appreciation of the development of Cinema. Students learn to understand Cinema as an art-form, as an industrial process and as a set of interconnected technologies by considering films, their stars and their makers. American, British and other world Cinemas provide the raw materials. A variety of styles of class work will require students to work as a whole group, in smaller groups or pairs, or individually, with the emphasis on discussion in class. Students will sometimes be asked to research and present material in class as part of the course. Some coursework tasks require creative responses from students.
