Practical coursework follows the BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Art and Design Syllabus, consisting of a combination of drawing, painting, 3D, digital photography and other media. The course starts with students spending time improving their drawing skills and their understanding of drawing. We also look at the importance of sketchbook work to develop practical skills and develop ideas; students become critically aware of their own work and the work of others. Assignments during the course are tutor-led; these are written to fit the requirements of Units 1, 2, 3 and 4. Students are encouraged to explore their own ideas and reach an individual outcome to these assignments. Students investigate the materials and media used by particular artists, designers or craftspeople, and go on to use the same materials in the production of their own work. Reflective analysis of their own work will also assist students in their growth and development as creative individuals, and this will lead to higher grades. During the course students will visit Galleries, Art Centres and take part in an extended visit to London or Barcelona.
