This course is taught over two years. Unit 1 - Media Representations and Responses: Students will study how a wide range of print and moving image texts are constructed. They will also analyse how individuals, groups and issues are represented in those media texts. Audience responses to the texts will also be a key focus of this unit. Unit 2 - Media Production Processes: This unit will entail a coursework portfolio consisting of a pre-production task which reflects research and planning in the focus area, a production which develops out of the pre-production and a report of 1200-1600 words. Unit 3 - Media Investigation and Production: This is an untaught unit with students undertaking their own choice of media investigation and related practical production linked to genre, narrative or representation. An academic essay, related production work and an evaluation will be required. Unit 4 - Media - Text, Industry and Audience: Students will study the media industries of television, film and advertising.
