This is a two year A level course. That has a new specification. Students will complete three modules in year 12 and three modules in year 13. Year 12 The three modules completed during this year are: G620 – Science at work G621 – Analysis at work G622 – Monitoring the human body. Science At Work and Analysis At Work are coursework based units. Science At Work looks at how science is used in society. It has a focus on different jobs which use science in them and also a range of practical skills which would be used in scientific workplaces. Students will carry out a range of studies on different scientific work places. Monitoring the human body is examined by a one hour and 30 minute exam. Each module is worth 33% of the total mark. Year 13 There are three further modules completed during this year these are: G627 – Investigating the work of a scientist G365 – Working waves An optional module. Each module is worth 33% of the A2 mark. Working waves is an examined modules and the other two modules are coursework modules. Students will be taught using a variety of independent work, practical investigations and trips to local scientific places of work and case studies. New course specifications not yet available.
