You will complete two exams and one coursework unit. Exam 1: Drama and poetry pre-1900 Question 1: Shakespeare. A two-part question requiring close textual analysis of an extract from the play and related issues in the play as a whole. Question 2: Drama and poetry pre-1900 Exploring thematic links between the two set texts. Exam 2: Comparative and contextual study You will prepare two set texts that are linked by a topic selected by your teacher (eg The Gothic, Dystopia, Women in Literature) Question 1: Close reading in chosen topic area Analysing an unseen prose extract that relates to the topic studied. Question 2: Comparing and contrasting texts Comparing the two chosen texts and exploring literary critical responses to the texts. Coursework: Literature post-1900 Learners are required to study three texts: one prose text, one poetry text and one drama text: the texts must have been first published or performed in 1900 or later and at least one of them must have been published or performed in 2000 or later • Close reading of a short section of the selected text (about 2-4 pages of prose or drama or 45 lines of poetry) This piece should be approximately 1000 words long • An essay comparing two texts, informed by different interpretations and an understanding of contexts and literary criticism.
