A-level Government & Politics

UPDATED 20161122 10:34:32

Students expand on their studies at AS by look at two areas in detail: UK Political Issues and EU Political Issues. The UK Political Issues course encourages students to examine strands of domestic policy over the last 30 years such as on the Economy, Law and Order, Education, Health, Welfare and the Environment debating historical decisions and considering where the future lies for parties across the political spectrum. EU Political Issues begins with an examination of the complex structure of the EU Institutions and their powers as well as the criticisms aimed at them. This then extends into an historical analysis of how they developed over time through each Treaty upto the modern day. With the context of the EU established in students minds, they go on to study the many issues which face the EU today from Enlargement to the problems of open borders before narrowing in on the specific debates that relate to the UK and its relationship with the EU. The course provides an excellent basis for students going on to study Politics, History, Journalism and Law at University.
