A-level Computing

UPDATED 20161122 10:57:59

There are three modules at A2 which develop topics at AS. There are two terminal exams and a piece of extended coursework in which students are expected to develop their own software through programming in a high level language. The two exams are on Computing Principles and on Programming and Algorithms. Computing Principles involves programming, software development, the processor, data exchange between computing systems. The Algorithms and Problem Solving element applies these concepts to real world situations and requires students to develop a solution. They are expected to learn complex algorithms by heart and then apply them, or modify them for use in a particular situation. There is a substantial amount of boolean algebra and floating point binary and hexadecimal maths.
