Unit 1 (PHED1) This unit covers opportunities for and the effects of leading a healthy and active lifestyle. Topics include physiological effects of adopting a healthy lifestyle, effects of exercise and training on the body, analysis of sporting movements and the impact of psychological factors on performance. Assessed via written exam (2hrs) which contributes to 60% of AS grade. Unit 2 (PHED2) - This unit allows for analysis and evaluation of physical activity as performer or in adopted roles such as coach, official etc. This is the AS coursework module (40%). Practical Assessment in two roles (these may be from different sports), eg performer/referee/judge etc. Opportunities have to be taken in Year 11 and also Year 12 to extend skills in coaching or officiating as part of the schools extra curricular programme.
