UPDATED 20161123 12:26:00

Photography is an exciting subject for students who enjoy creative expression and how this can be achieved through the medium of Photography. Students will learn the basic skills of composition and how to take ‘better’ photographs. In addition students will work with traditional wet process in the darkroom learning how to create black and white prints and work with traditional colour dyeing and toning. Students will work with digital technologies, involving a fully equipped digital studio with camera and flash. They will also develop their skills using digital image manipulation using Photoshop. In the first year, students will work on their personal portfolio unit. This will comprise of a series of projects aimed at developing students creative skills, technical ability and understanding of Photography. This will be done through a series of practical projects covering a variety of themes such as dramatic light, portraiture, landscape and documentary. During the first part of the second year students will work on developing their personal portfolios through a more in depth practical project on a subject of their choice in order to develop a more sophisticated and mature practical response expected in the second year of study. In addition students will research and write a personal study on a photographic subject of their choice. Students will carry out a practical examination project during the second part of this year. This will give students the opportunity to again work more independently on a practical assignment and allow them to further demonstrate the technical and creative skills they have developed on this programme of study.
