You'll improve your own thinking and learn how to understand, analyse and then find strengths and weaknesses in other people's arguments. You will learn skills needed not just in college but also in life 'you never stop arguing, so why not get better at it. Critical Thinking produces free thinking, independent learners and more rounded individuals. You will become a Critical Thinker by learning how to see both sides of an argument, particularly the side you disagree with. Not only will you win more arguments than you lose but research from Cambridge University has found that the skills you learn in Critical Thinking will, on average, improve your results in other subjects by a grade. The AS year focuses on how to understand the structure of arguments - picking out examples, evidence, assumptions and conclusions, as well as finding the weaknesses in other people's thinking and reasoning. You will also learn how to develop logical and powerfully persuasive arguments of your own.
