This is a one year intensive course and is endorsed by the Sports Massage Association and is focused towards those students seeking to gain a vocationally related qualification in the context of sports injuries. This practically focused qualification will develop practical skills in sports massage, health and fitness testing, basic taping and strapping, the application of hot and cold techniques and emergency first aid, which together will provide students with a holistic profile to prevent and manage injuries in sport and active leisure. Students will also develop the requisite knowledge and understanding of anatomy and physiology, nutrition and sports injuries and their rehabilitation to support the practical skills they acquire. Customer care and employment awareness are also embedded within this qualification to prepare students for employment in sport and active leisure. Prevention and Management of Sports Injuries VTCT Level Three Diploma Level 3 Duration 1 year Topics included in the course are: Field - based fitness testing for sport and exercise, customer service in the sport and active leisure industry, injuries in sport, understanding employment rights and responsibilities, understanding the active leisure and learning sector, emergency first aid skills, functional anatomy, physiology and nutrition for sports therapies. Additional units: Level two Certificate in Fitness Instructing (GYM), Level two Functional Skills, English, Maths, and ICT. Additional home - based study will be required to complete the course and this is a minimum of 15 hours per week.
