There are over 300 different careers within the NHS and over 150 in social care. The Health and Social Care course will lay the foundations for a career in the health or care sectors. The emphasis of the course is on applying theory in practice and students studying the course develop not only academic skills but also practical and personal skills in order to prepare them for Higher Education and employment. Due to the work placement commitments of students studying the BTEC Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care (Health Studies) course, no other subject can be studied in combination with this course. The 2 year course consists of 11 units of mandatory study, including one double unit, plus seven further units. It focuses on a range of Health and Social care topics to prepare you for a career or further study. Examples of the topic areas are: Communication, Anatomy and Physiology, Public Health and Physiological Disorders. You will spend a minimum of 200 hours in 3 or more placements with practitioners in the community to develop your practical skills in this subject. All units must be successfully achieved in order to gain this qualification. Group work, taught sessions, independent study and wider reading are integral features of this course

The coursework will be handed in throughout the duration of each of the units. There will be an expectation to combine theory with practice.
