The City & Guilds Level 3 Extended Diploma in Animal Management is an engaging programme, enabling you to develop practical skills and theoretical knowledge over 2 years. The programme has been designed to give students an in-depth understanding of the animal industry and develop skills in practical animal management, science and business. You will learn through both theoretical and practical sessions and gain essential skills and experience with a diverse range of animals. You will develop the expertise, knowledge and understanding required when working with animals and build your professional confidence in the process Topics of study will include: ◾Understand and promote animal health ◾Manage animal accommodation ◾Plan and monitor animal feeding ◾Understand the principles of animal biology ◾Undertake animal handling and safe working ◾Undertake and review work-related experience in the land-based industry ◾Understand and interpret animal behaviour and communication ◾Understand animal welfare and breed development ◾Undertake animal training ◾Understand the principles of zoo animal health and husbandry During your time at the NHC, you will get the opportunity to undertake industry-related work experience and participate in a range of trips and visits. These have in the past included trips to zoos and as well as college wide trips to Thorpe Park. Previous students of this programme have gone on to employment in various fields including zoo keeping, animal training and veterinary nursing or progressed to Higher Education BSc (Hons) degree programmes.

There will be a form of programmework for each unit. Progress will be assessed using a variety of methods including presentations, assignments and in-class tests.
