A-level Music Technology

UPDATED 20161006 09:55:30

DURING THE COURSE YOU WILL learn how to use a computer to perform music and to arrange your own music in a recording studio. You will also listen to and analyse music in two areas of study; popular music and developments in music technology. At the cutting edge: An A-Level for the 21st Century musician Wymondham High Academy is one of only 3 centres in the Norfolk to offer Music Technology at A-level. The subject is a popular choice with students and has achieved excellent results in recent years. Our Music Technology facilities are outstanding, reflecting the Academy’s ongoing commitment to ensure that students are able to work with the very latest industry standard software and hardware. The Performing Arts department boasts a Mac suite of 15 workstations running the Logic Pro X software as well as a professionally equipped recording studio complete with a wide range of industry standard microphones, drum kit and guitar amplifiers. The department also houses a second, smaller recording/mixing space. W H Y S T U D Y A - L E V E L M U S I C T E C H N O LO G Y AT W YM O N D H AM H I G H A C A D E M Y ? Music technology students have the opportunity to make full use of the department facilities to rehearse and record their own music, aside from that which forms the basis of their coursework. Something of a Wymondham High tradition is that our Music Technology students produce an annual Christmas EP to raise money for local charities, taking full ownership of writing the tracks and performing them, together with recording, mixing and producing the final result. Music Technology students are warmly encouraged to take part in any of the department’s extra-curricular groups and to become 6th Form Music Champions.
