THE GEOGRAPHY COURSE IS DESIGNED to highlight the main issues and concepts that students are likely to encounter in their current and future lives both at a local and global scale; for example climate change; and future energy supply. Students will develop informed opinions about such issues, as well as a wide-ranging knowledge of both physical and human geography. The course will give students the opportunity to become equipped to make better-informed decisions whilst being sensitive to a wide range of viewpoints and challenges. With climate change and sustainability forming the background to the news on a daily basis, there has never been a more relevant and exciting time to study Geography at A-level! CONTENT In the first year students will study: • Physical Geography: Coastal Landscapes, Earth Hazards • Human Geography: Changing spaces, Future of food Geographical and fieldwork skills will be taught across the human and physical geography courses. In the second year students will study: • Physical Geography: Earth’s life support systems: the water and carbon cycles. • Human Geography: Global connections: trade and human rights Students will also complete an independent geographical investigation that will carry 20% of the A-level marks.
