BTEC National Extended Diploma in Engineering

UPDATED 20150929 16:23:46

This course will provide all the skills and technical knowledge required to gain access to our Foundation Degree. It is split into two parts: academic study will be provided over one half of the week and enrichment activities, work experience, self - study programmes, site tours and enterprise activities will be provided over the second half. In the first year you will complete the Level 2 BTEC National Certificate in Engineering and in the second year you will then top this qualification up to the full Level 3 BTEC (180 credit) Extended Diploma in Engineering. This pathway enables all learners to progress easily to advanced apprenticeships after the first year if employment is found at that point in time. You will be provided with the opportunity to work & study abroad in Europe during the course. This will include a course in Advanced Robotics at the Technical College in Germany during your second year of study. The course is ideal for people who are looking at a career in engineering but who have not yet identified a specialism they wish to pursue at degree level. The course covers all the primary aspects of general engineering and incorporates the elements contained within the specialist Electrical, Mechanical, Operations and Manufacturing BTEC study programmes. By following a general engineering study programme, you will be positioned perfectly to commence a pathway to specialism at degree level and beyond. Local employers and universities all agree that, by developing a wide range of technical skills at Level 3 rather than specialising too early in their career, future engineers are far more valuable to local companies, many of which are working in the advanced technologies sector where multi skilling is a vital skillset to have. We will provide you with an understanding of Electrical, Mechanical, Manufacturing and Operations Engineering principles at Level 3 (A level standard).
