The specification has been designed to encourage candidates to take a broad view of technology and design, to develop their capacity to design and make products and to appreciate the complex relations between design, materials, manufacture and marketing. Two material areas are given in the Subject Content, 3D Design and Textiles. 3D Design is intended to reflect the wide-ranging activities of professional designers covering a wide range of materials. It also allows students to develop their own designs and prototypes.
