AQA AS English Literature

UPDATED 20161014 09:48:35

Students will study a minimum of eight texts across the two years. This is the bare minimum as students will be expected to complete additional personal reading. Four of the texts will be studied each year. The texts will include three pre-1900 works, including a Shakespeare play, and a post-2000 work. This is to ensure students have a good historical coverage which will prepare them for Higher Education study. There is a new requirement for students to be examined on an additional, unseen text which has not been previously named for study, in order to prepare for examinations with unseen texts. Students will need to read widely, broadening their knowledge and their critical and comparative understanding of literature. Year 1 Coursework Independent Critical Study: Comparative critical study of two texts, at least one of which must have been written pre-1900.
