British Sign Language Level 2 Certificate

This course offers you the opportunity to learn to use and understand British Sign Language at an intermediate level in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. You will develop functional communication skills in BSL to use in everyday situations and work towards the three units at Level 2. You will be able to participate in everyday conversation using BSL without misunderstanding or requiring frequent repetition or clarification and will be able convey information clearly and accurately. You will be able to demonstrate and respond to an appropriate range of vocabulary, be confident using facial expression as an essential element of BSL and apply appropriate grammatical features. There will be a variety of activities including: watching visual clips; signing in pairs or small groups; memory and guessing games and pictures to help you acquire new vocabulary; role plays; and, where possible, use of resources available on the internet. You will also seek out opportunities to sign with other users of BSL and watch sign being used in a variety of situations. Your tutor will monitor your progress as you complete activities on the course and will give you feedback on how to improve. You will also be encouraged to assess your own progress and share ideas about how to improve. You will be assessed in a variety of situations to help you gain confidence in preparation for your exams. Following a progress review with your tutor, you will be entered for exams at an appropriate point during the course. Once you have the completed the Level 2 qualification you may wish to progress to the Level 3 course if you wish to put your signing skills into practice at work or in the voluntary sector.
