Childcare (Award in Caring for Children) Level 1

This course provides an introduction to the key aspects of caring for children and for those students who wish to develop the relevant skills and knowledge that you need for working with children. It is suitable for students who would like to gain a qualification which will give them a better insight into working with children. It has been designed to: Provide the practical skills and knowledge required to work in the Children and Young People's Workforce sector. Introduce you to a wide range of topics including communication with children, engaging through activities, supporting learning and planning for the care of children's physical and emotional needs. Provide opportunities for progression to the Level 2 Certificate and other related qualifications in the sector, Develop English and maths skills to enable progression to Level 2. This is a work related qualification suitable for students who are currently employed, or for students who are volunteering or wish to work in the childcare sector. This qualification will help you develop and practice the skills required to work with children. You will engage in learning, and develop the personal skills and attributes that are key for successful progress in a working life. Your teacher will help you to develop the knowledge, understanding and skills in a set class through planned lessons, discussions, tutorials and practical activities. Your teacher will also support you in putting together your folder of evidence, assess your work and give you feedback. There are no examinations. Assessment is continuous throughout the course in the form of written assignments and a range of tasks including practical activities. Your teacher will mark your work to ensure that you meet all of the assessment criteria, and give you feedback as to how well you are doing. You will have an Individual Learning Plan which will be used to record your targets and progress.
