AS Level Unit 1: Students will take either either (MS1B): Statistics 1 or (MM1B): Mechanics 1 (MS1B): Statistics 1. Probability, the analysis of data using samples, averages and spread. Investigating the relationships between data sets using correlation and regression to make future predictions. (MM1B): Mechanics 1. Topics covered are: Modelling, Kinematics, Statics, Newton’s Laws of Motion and Projectiles. Unit 2 (MD01): Decision 1.The content covers: Algorithms, Graphs, Networks, Matchings and Linear Programming. Unit 3 (MFP1): Further Pure 1. The additional topics are: Graphs, Conics, Calculus, Numerical Methods and Matrices. A Level Unit 4 will vary depending on the courses students have followed and the interests they have expressed throughout the year. Students will take one module: MD02: Decision 2, (MFP4): Further Pure 4, MM2B: Mechanics 2 or SS2B: Statistics 2. (for last two modules see Mathematics with Mechanics / Statistics). (MDO2): Decision 2. This builds on the knowledge gained from MD01. The topics covered are: Allocation, Network Flows, Critical Path Analysis, Dynamic Programming and Game Theory. (MFP4): Further Pure 4. This module looks at just two topics in depth. Vectors, here you extend the work to include work in three dimensions and many applications. Matrices, looks at more advanced techniques. Further topics are: solution of linear equations and determinants. Unit 5 (MFP2): Further Pure 2. Topics covered: Roots of polynomials, Complex numbers, Summation of series, De Moivre’s Theorem, Inverse Trigonometric Functions, Hyperbolic Functions, Arc length and Area of Curved Surfaces. Unit 6 (MFP3): Further Pure 3. Second Order Differential Equations, Series and Limits, Polar Coordinates and First Order Differential Equations.
