UPDATED 20161024 13:31:20

This is the study of philosophical ideas and questions, ethical theories and applied ethics. These might include arguments about God’s existence, challenges to religious belief, how we explain evil and suffering in the world, science and religion, how do we know what is right or wrong, Kantian ethics, utilitarianism, Natural Law and religious ethics. This is a challenging, interesting and rewarding course. You will develop your thinking about some of the big philosophical questions and learn how to put together a coherent argument. A qualification in this subject is a highly respected academic qualification for those applying for a university degree course in many subjects. It shows that you are thoughtful, reflective and articulate with an awareness of different philosophies and world faiths. What could I go on to next? The qualification is relevant to anyone applying for employment in fields where an understanding of people and good communication counts, such as, law, journalism, public relations, the police, teaching, social work and retail and marketing. Furthermore the problems of morality and ethics are of particular relevance in the fields of medicine, psychology, nursing and TV and the media.
