This course is equivalent to one A Level and is designed to provide some of the necessary theoretical understandings that underpin work in the sport, leisure and fitness sectors. Specific modules will allow students to examine their own sports performance and that of others. Students’ understanding of performance will be enhanced through fitness training and performance analysis. Course modules bring together core scientific content with a practical approach to working with sports people. Students will have the opportunity to learn about coaching techniques, covering either individual or team sports. Units covered include: Anatomy & Physiology - structure and function of the body systems. Fitness Training and Programming - training methods for particular components of fitness. Professional Development in Sport - different career pathways in the sports industry. Practical Sport - performance and knowledge of skills, tactics and techniques. Possible careers include: Sports Development Officer; Sports Therapy; Coaching; Massage; Sports Nutritionist; Sports Psychologist; Teaching.
