The first year of the course provides a foundation for historical analysis and a continuation of the skills that have been developed at GCSE. Students study a key era for understanding Britain today as they examine the reputation, actions and legacy of Winston Churchill and the way that Britain has changed politically, economically and socially since World War 2. Students will also build upon work produced at GCSE with an evaluation of Hitlers Germany and how the country rose to meet the challenges of the Cold War in the years after his demise. In the second year students consider the issue of protest and rebellion in Tudor England and the extent to which the dramatic religious changes of the period were the most important cause of discontent. Students also produce an independent investigation of a topic of their choice which provides a timely opportunity to demonstrate their skills and knowledge as true historians.
