This course builds upon skills acquired at GCSE and fosters a deeper understanding of German culture and language. In the first year students study social and technological change alongside highlights of German-speaking artistic culture, including art and architecture. Students also explore the influence of the past on present-day German-speaking communities. Students will also study a text or a film. In the second year students will learn about political engagement and who wields political power in Germany. Students will have the opportunity to carry out independent research on an area of their choice. Throughout their studies, they will learn the language in the context of German-speaking countries and the issues and influences which have shaped them.
