A-level Dance is a dynamic qualification which encourages students to develop their creative and intellectual capacity, alongside transferable skills such as team working, communication and problem solving. All of these are sought after skills by higher education and employers and will help them stand out in the workplace whatever their choice of career. Students will learn to choreograph and perform work as well as analyse professional works and learn the historical context of a range of works. The specification has been designed to enable AS and A-level students to be co-taught as well as give AS students the option to progress onto the A-level AS level content: Performance in duet/trio; Choreograph and perform a solo; practical work is 50% of final mark and 2 hours written exam is 50% of final mark. A level content: Performance in a quartet; Solo performance; Group choreography; practical exam is 50% of final mark and 2 hours 30 minutes written exam is 50% of final mark.

The solo choreography stimuli will be set by the exam board and students will be required to produce a 300 word programme note and choreographical log to authenticate their work. All practical work is externally assessed by a visiting examiner sent from the exam board. The written exam is externally set by the exam board and sent off for assessment by examiners from the exam board. Students will answer a range of short questions on their own practice as well as the compulsory area of study. They will also complete 2 essay style questions on the set areas of study.A Level: the performance in a quartet will be choreographed by the teacher and can be performed with other students not being examined. The solo performance will link to a practitioner and will be choreographed by the teacher. The group choreography will be set by the exam board and students will be required to produce a 300 word programme note and choreographical log to authenticate their work. The written exam is externally set and sent off for assessment by examiners from the exam board.
