A-level Accounting helps students to develop knowledge and understanding of the purposes of accounting and apply this to a variety of accounting problems. This four-unit specification requires students to develop their ability to acquire a range of important and transferable skills including: data skills, presenting arguments and justified recommendations, solving problems, making decisions and planning work, taking into account the demands of the task and the time available to complete it. Students will learn basic double entry book keeping and develop the skills necessary to complete financial statements for sole proprietors, limited companies and partnerships. They will learn how to budget and make business decisions based on several different costing methods; they will look at ways of appraising capital investment and develop an understanding of social aspects of decision making. This specification has no coursework or controlled assessment. It is not necessary for students to have studied GCSE Accounting before commencing work on this specification and no prior knowledge of accounting is necessary. This course is a very good grounding for anyone who wants a career in Accountancy and Finance or indeed in any aspect of business.
