GCE Design and Technology: Food Technology

If you enjoy designing and preparing high quality dishes and interested in developing your knowledge, understanding and application for designing food products then this is the course for you. Food Technology seeks to your abilities to produce food products that are fit for purpose, satisfy wants or needs and enhance our day-to-day lives. This course gives you the opportunity to demonstrate your design and technology capability whilst developing skills in planning, research, analysis, product development, project planning and evaluation. Food Technology also focuses on key areas such as quality and processing of food, packaging and labelling and nutrition. A-level Food Technology is a good introduction into the vast and varied career opportunities within the food industry and opportunities for progression to many degree level courses such as Food Science, Food and Consumer Science, Health Nutrition and Lifestyle, Human Nutrition, Exercise Nutrition and Health. The coursework portfolio of skills makes up 60% of the course, and the external exam is worth 40%.
