Psychology

Psychology literally means study of the mind. There are many areas of research that psychologists are involved in. For example Social, Brain and Behaviour, Emotion, Attention, Perception, Personality. What do pupils think of Psychology? • “Psychology is hard but I get a lot out of it.” • “It’s good because you get to learn about yourself.” • “Psychology lessons are interesting as you get to do lots of different activities.” Psychology is an extremely popular subject at A Level. Psychology is concerned with the study of both the mind and behaviour. Psychologists ask a number of interesting questions regarding human behaviours and thought. For example: • How can addictions be explained? • What causes stress and how can it be reduced? • Do the media influence aggressive behaviour? • Are looks or personality important when choosing a partner? • Why do we obey or conform to some people and not others? Psychology combines really well with all subjects, as it is a great basis for all future careers. Most students pair Psychology with English, Sciences or Maths. If you enjoy finding out about key pieces of research and have a critical and inquisitive mind, Psychology is a challenging and exciting subject for you to embark on. Psychology is certainly not a one-size-fits-all career choice. In fact, one of the greatest strengths of picking Psychology is the enormous variety of career paths that are available, including: • Clinical Psychologist • Educational Psychologist • Sports Psychology • Criminal/Forensic Psychologist
