This course provides the learners with the opportunity to develop a range of skills and qualities that will be beneficial in many aspects of their working life. This is a vocational course so assessments are related to real life contexts and situations which could prove useful to students in future careers within the sport and leisure industry. Assignments are set in a variety of formats and could include practical observations, presentations or written reports. This course is predominantly theory based however there is the opportunity for students to experience a practical element within some units. The units that students will study at year 12 will include anatomy and physiology, fitness testing and assessing risk in sport. In year 13 students have the opportunity to complete a further 3 units to fulfil requirements for the Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma. Unit content could include aspects of nutrition, leadership and the athlete’s lifestyle. This qualification can be used to progress onto Higher Education degrees. It is broadly equivalent to 1 GCE A Level.
