Economics AS & A Level: Economics is an exciting and topical subject, particularly given our current economic climate, based on real life situations and will give students the opportunity to develop their analytical and evaluative skills. It develops an understanding of economic concepts and theories through a critical consideration of current economic issues, problems and institutions as they are applied to everyday life and ‘real-world’ phenomena. It allows students to understand the world around them and how and why it functions the way it does. Students can discuss contemporary issues, the business news, politics and economic strategy and bring in articles or news feeds they have downloaded for class discussion. The course of study is applied to real life scenarios as students discuss what is happening around them. They have the opportunity to develop their analytical and evaluative skills whilst translating daily occurrences into technical speak. The course develops an understanding of economic concepts and theories through a critical consideration of current economic issues. Programme of Study: During the course, students will develop their knowledge and understanding of key economic theories and concepts together with their skills of analysis and evaluation. Stimulus materials will be used to develop their appreciation of the subject, problem solving skills and ability to apply their learning to real economic environments. As Economics relates to every aspect of our lives, from the decisions we make as individuals or families to the structures created by governments and firms, many students go on to working either in the private or public sector, for large corporations, financial institutions and government bodies. Economics can also support a career in Business such as marketing, journalism and law.
