An A level in English Language and Literature is a highly challenging and rigorous development of skills learnt at GCSE. This course will enable candidates to develop a combined discipline of integrated literary and linguistic analysis. It is the investigation into the workings of spoken and written modes and the skills of re-creating texts. The course will combine the study of non-fiction and media texts with the traditional study of fiction texts and will suit those students who are fascinated by the workings of the English language both in everyday usage and in the creation of fictional worlds. The emphasis of the course concentrates more directly on the workings of language and therefore may suit students who are passionate about English.
