GCE A Level in History Course Overview & Assessment Component 1: The Tudors 1485-1603. 40% 2.5 hour exam. A breadth study: the study of significant historical developments over a period of around 100 years and associated interpretations. This unit explores a range of fascinating subject content such as Henry VIII’s character and legacy. Component 2: Democracy and Nazism, Germany 1918-1945. 40% 2.5 hour exam. A depth study: the study in depth of a period of major historical change or development and associated primary evidence. This course is offered with the intention of an international trip to Berlin in either Year 12 or 13 to visit a range of museums and historical landmarks. Component 3: Independent Study is worth 20% and assessed through a 3,000-3,500 word essay marked by teachers, and moderated by AQA. This is submitted in Year 13. A personal study based on a topic of the student's choice in consultation with their teacher. This should take the form of a question in the context of approximately 100 years.
