Applied Science AS: Applied Science is a qualification for students interested in a career in science. The course concentrates on the application of science, giving students an insight into the types of careers scientists may pursue. Science plays a key role in almost all areas of modern life, from the development of new materials right through to laboratory research and the discovery of new cures and treatment of disease. There is an opportunity to gain a new qualification, enter employment or progress to further study. Success with the ‘A’ Level Applied Science allows students to develop skills which are highly valued by both employers and universities alike. This is an interesting and valuable general Science course which covers topic areas chosen from Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Much of the course will be based around experiments and practical work. Carrying out investigations and working safely and skilfully are also key elements. Students will learn the essential knowledge all scientists need and participate in a wide range of exciting practical assignments including visits to science-based companies. Lessons will take place in laboratories and classrooms.
