The specification allows students to cover a broad range of techniques, materials and processes including surface decoration, dye methods, felt and silk paper making, hand and machine embroidery and a variety of mixed media textiles. Students are encouraged to develop their skills, knowledge and understanding in a more individual and creative way by studying and responding critically to the work of artists and textile artists. This work is further developed in the second year of study by experimenting with and combining a range of textile techniques around a theme of the student’s own choice, plus a written related study of up to 2,000 words. Enrichment opportunities Visits are organised to textile exhibitions and museums locally and in London. An enquiring mind, ability to research, high standards of presentation and attention to detail plus an interest and enthusiasm about textiles is essential. Textile design is an excellent opportunity for students interested in fashion, costume design, interior design, printed and / or dyed fabric and art textiles. This course prepare students to go on and study foundation art, and university.
