At A2 there is one compulsory unit assessed by portfolio: Planning and Carrying Out a Scientific Investigation for a Chosen Client. The other two units to be completed give students some choices. A portfolio of evidence must be completed on one of the following topics: Medical Physics, Controlling Chemical Reactions or The Healthy Body. The third unit at A2 is assessed by examination and students must study one of the following topics: Sports Science, Physics of Performance Effects, Actions and Developments of Medicines, Colour Chemistry, The Role of the Pathology Service or Ecology, Conservation and Recycling. Lectures, discussions, research, visits, experimental work, problem-solving exercises, debates, presentations and information searches form an important part of the course. Students are given increasing responsibility for their work and are expected to take control of their own learning, plan their approach and monitor their progress, find and use relevant information, evaluate and source their own work.
